Facts
We developed a database in sql 2005.
The production database engine is sql 2008.
We created a Type 90 database and restored the sql2005 database to the sql 2008 engine.
When we try to backup the database as a Type 90 database and try restoring it onto our sql 2005 engine, we receive a media family error.
Is there anyway of restoring a sql2005 database from sql2008 management studio backup onto a sql2005 managment studio instance?
Thanks
Thomas

No - once a database has been upgraded, it cannot be restored or attached to an older version. This was true from 2000 to 2005 and is still true going from 2005 to 2008.
If your production system is 2008 I would recommend upgrading your development system to the same.
