SQL Managed Instance - Changing (Upgrading) the Hardware

  • Hello,

    Has anyone changed their Hardware generation?  We are looking at going from 'Standard-series' to 'Premium-series'.  How long does the process normall take with fairly small databases?  Is there a reboot\outage?

  • We upgraded from standard business-critical to premium business-critical a few months ago.  We had approached the 4tb storage limit and needed to upgrade to get more space.  We have a secondary failover server so did that one a week before doing the production one.  Each server took about 10 hours to run as it copies data (at a SAN level I think) from one server to another but we could still use it as normal during this time.  There was a small outage when the server switched to use premium.
