SQL Instances - is it possible? 7 & 2000 on same server???

  • I am working on testing a new system. The current production system is using a server with SQL Server 7 CLIENT and the new version needs to be using SQL Server 2000 client.

I cannot upgrade the SQL Server 7 client to 2000 client without affecting production.

What I need to know is if it is possible to have an instance of SQL Server 7 Client AND an instance of SQL Server 2000 Client on the same server?

    AND if it is possible:

    How is this done?

What problems do I need to watch out for?

    HELP!

  • Mmm.  I don't think you can do this, as installing the 2000 client will overwrite the 7.0 client.

What I do know is that the 2000 client can and does manage 7.0 servers without a hitch.  I'm not sure what your issue with that is.

Are you concerned with some of the MDAC components that will be upgraded?

Please give us a little more background on your situation.
