Hello,
I'm having an issue connecting SQL 2000 server, weird one. I cannot ping/tracert from client machine to SQL server or vice versa. However, osql and telnet using 1433 work just fine but the application keeps throwing errors saying can't connect to SQL server... So, I wonder if this is a connection issue or not...
Thanks for your help

It sounds like networking. How is the app connecting? Is it trying for a named instance? Might need UDP 1434 open as well.
Can you browse there from isqlw, click the drop down for server lists?

thanks. yes, it was a network issue and network team found something (saying they were in different vlan) and coccrected. now i can connect the SQL server without any issue.
Thanks again.
