Hi All
First our environment:
We do have a Windows 2000 with sp3 that is a MSSQL 7.0 DB (With SQL7 sp4) server.
We recently did uninstall Veritas BackUp EXEC 9.0 from that server and that did remove the MSDE from that Box. We did run into this problem:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;822034&Product=sql
No Job would run and we could not use any SQL-DMO, EM and so on. We did fix it as noted in that KB article, and everything (SQL-DMO, Jobs, EM and all others) went back to Normal. We were able to run all jobs and it did for a day or two
But since then the backup jobs (derived from a Maintenance plan) just hangs in middle, it will run for 20 30 hours and not do the backup!!! Will just run till we stop it and will just hang when we try to retry. It will not return to normal until we stop the SQL server service, at that point it will do the backup for another day or two and will hang again.
We did check all Error logs all events logs and No clue whatsoever.
Please Help.

Have you tried create backup job statement and schedule it to run? When you see job hang, go to server task manager to see how many sqlmaint.exe are there, Kill these sqlmaint.exe will release your hanging jobs.

Thanks for the reply.
Yes we do have scheduled backups and these hang!
Will try to kill process, but what cause’s these hangs? So we could resume with regular scheduled backups?
At this point we do not get our backups done and it is NO GOOD!
Thans

What I like you to do is to creaet backup job without using maintenance wizard to see whether it hangs or not. If it works fine, keep it running as scheduled and we can focus on the trouble-shooting on maintenance wizard.
