Hello everybody,
i’m tryng to install a SQL Server 2008 Standard Edition istance on a machine running Windows Server 2003 SP2, with a SQL Server 2000 SP4 Enterprise Edition instance on it.
At the end of the installation it shows an error message: sql server browser cannot start, and we can’t go on. Did anyone have the same problem?
Thank you

I'm pretty sure that you cannot go from Sql Enterprise down to Sql Standard

You can have as many different instances on one box as you like. I myself, have just finished installing SQL 2000, SQL 2005 and SQL 2008 all on my laptop and one a server that are both running Server 2003. I just gave each one a different instance name. Have not had any issues when installing. You can however, have only one instance of SQL Reporting Service running. I chose to use SQL 2008 reporting service.

My workstation has sql 2000, 2005 and 2008 all installed. I have all services set to manual and start up which ever one I want. Generally you don't need the sql browser unless it's a cluster. Try assigning a domain account to it. or a local machine account during the setup. I only run the browser on my clusters.
