Hi All,
I installed SQL 2008 R2 recently onto a Windows 2008 R2 64bit server. The install seemed to go well but today we moved one of our application databases to the new sql server.
When we went to create maintenance plan for the database it it immediatly comes up with an error.
"The action you attempted to perform ona remote sql server has failed bacause the action requires a sql server component that is not installed on the remote computer"
Anybody know why I'm getting this error. I'm running this through the Management Studio on the server console itself - why would it mention remote computer.
I have 2 instances installed - and it does it on both. I have the management tools full and basic installed so not sure what other components i can install.
I have noticed on the microsoft forums that a repair worked previously for someone - i have tried this and also installed SP1 but it still does not work.
Has anybodt seen this before? Can anyone help as I;'m out of ideas?
How can I get these maintenance plans working.
Thanks for looking.
Chris

Try doing a repair on your installation.

Did you do a full reinstall or just repair the SSMS tools?

You said that you installed SQL Server 2008 R2, but did you make sure to install the proper services? SSIS is needed for maintenance plans. Also, did you copy the maintenance plan over, or are you tryig to create a new one?

That depends on SP level of the product. If this is RTM, then SSIS should be installed. If service packed then SSIS is not required.

I did a repair on the full instance - was that correct?
I beleiev the version we are using was the RTM version whcih I downloaded from the Volume Licensing website. I then also installed SP1 hopign that would fix it.
How can I install or re-install the SSIS service as it looks like this is what its missing. I didn't see an option to install from the section where you select the features.
Can this be installed again?
I do have Backup Exec SQL agent working at the moment so I am able to backup my databases but I would like very much to use these maintenance plans
Thanks All

Hi All,
I think I have resolved this. Re-installing the Integration services has done the trick. I no longer get the message and can run the maintenance wizard. I do have SP1 installed though so it still must reply on the SSIS.
Thanks to everyone who contributed.

Good to hear. And despite the KBs, it would appear in this case that was the best solution.
