I'm kind of new to SQL 2008 - our company went directly from SQL 2000 to 2008 and we finished rolling it out this week.
I was wondering if anyone knows how to save the instance list or have the 2008 Management Studio emulate Enterprise Manager from SQL 2000 - where it retains all the SQL servers that you've previously registered and grouped?
Thanks,
Tim

Sorry but according to 2008 BOL it states "You cannot import registered server information into SQL Server 2008 from earlier versions of SQL Server."
Hopefully you don't have a bunch to do.

Thanks David. That's what Microsoft and google say too, but I was hoping for a loophole.
I could tell you how many I have to do, but a "bunch" is a relative term. 🙂

Just saw this solution on Buck Woody's blog site. Thought it was probably too late for you but not for others. This doesn't exactly fit your problem as you were on 2000 but it should work for 2005 users. I don't remember if you can import from 2000 into 2005 SSMS, its been a while.
