hello every one.
i dont know if any one had tried this yet.
installing only the client tools from SQL 2008, and use it on SQL Server 2005 installation.
it should work but of course the new features wont work thats obvious..
but any more considerations i should know?

I have on my computer
SSMS 2008 Client installed + SQL Server 2008
SSMS 2005 Client installed
I can use SSMS 2008 client to connect to SQL 2000/2005/2008 in my company no problem
Some features obviously won't work (such as Activity Monitor on 2000), but 2008/2005 are pretty close

The only problem I have had is connecting to SSIS 2005 (and I think the same applies to SSAS), so you may still need to install SSMS 2005. If you do any report development you may also need to have both versions installed as the report definitions change when moving to 2008.

All the basics work fine, no issues. Intellisense doesn't work. There are some other newer bits & pieces that won't work.
For what it's worth, it works well on SQL Server 2000 too.
