Below is the error i am getting while starting my sql server 2008 agent.

Please advise how to proceed on this .

I had the same problem...
I went to the logs located: Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.\MSSQL\Log and saw that i was getting a login failed for the user MYDOMAIN\MYMACHINENAME$. All I did was add that user as a sysadmin and it started no problem after that.

I am having the same problem. My domain account has sysadmin role but it still will not start the agent. I get the following in the log file. I've labled my domain as xxx for security purposes. Please can you advice what needs to be done to register my machne as sysadmin. thanks

Adding the account for the SQL agent service as sysadmin SQL login corrected for me:
sp_addsrvrolemember '<Login>', 'sysadmin'

try modifying the service account using sql server configuration manager ?
