SQL 2000 Clustering and MDAC

  • In a active/active setup using SQL 2000 on Windows 2000 Advanced Server, are the client connections required to use MDAC 2.6? My company currently has a ban on MDAC 2.6 due to problems with MDAC 2.6 and Access 97. Will MDAC 2.5 allow clients to connect to a clustered virtual SQL server?

  • If you're going to cluster using Active/Active, then the client will need to have MDAC 2.6 to access the second node (named instance support didn't exist until MDAC 2.6). If it is banned from within your company, you can create a SQL Server alias for the second instance as a workaround.

  • I'm assuming the SQL Alias would have to access the virtual SQL Servers IP address and not the cluster nodes IP address?
