Sp3 on the client

  • I'm running SQL 2000 with sp3. How do I apply sp3 to a client? When I execute the service pack executable, it asks for database information and then wants to stop services for the install. How do I apply the sp so that it affects the ODBC driver only?

  • Terry,

Where is the client? (seperate machine from your SQL Server?) If you are running the exe for the sp on the same machine as the server, that is why it wants to stop the services and asks for the database information. If they are on the same machine, by default when you install the service pack on the server, the piece of the client that is on that machine gets updated as well. If your client is on a seperate PC from your server, sp3 recognizes this and automatically updates the client for the ODBC driver and dosen't ask you for any information about the server.
