Snapshot folder deletion failing

  • We have the following scenario:

A SQL Server 2005 database server that acts as both publisher and distributor with two additional SQL Server 2005 database servers acting as subscribers. On the publisher we have two separate Snapshot replication jobs set up with different sets of tables being published, one runs regularly and one only on demand, both are push subscriptions.

Initially the regular job was running correctly and the snapshot folders were removed after application. This process creates a snapshot each evening which is applied by the constantly running distribution agent.

When the second on demand snapshot job was set up the snapshot folders for the regular job stopped being deleted. For this second job both the snapshot agent and the distribution agent are only run on demand. It also appears that when the on demand snapshot is run then the regular folders are deleted but the on demand folder is left there. Something seems confused!

I am looking for advice on how we can diagnose what is going on so that we can get the regular snapshot folders being deleted again so that they do not have to be manually removed.

Thanks for any help you can give

  • if you have two separated publications you should have no problems but I have never tried to create two separated publications going to the same subscriber DB.

    Is that your case ?

  • Thanks for the reply.

Yes we have two separate publications on the publisher/distributor and two separate subscribers. I would have expected it to work successfully but for some reason the cleanup job does seem confused. With the creation of the second publication and corresponding subscription when we create a snapshot and apply it the folders from the original publication are deleted but not the folder for the new one. Similarly when the original snapshot process runs it does not clear up its own folders.

    Any further thoughts welcomed!

    Thanks

    Andy
