Single node SQL Server 2005 upgrade to SQL Server 2008 fails

  • Environment:

    Single Node cluster

    SQL Server 2005 with default instance

    O.S: Windows 2003 with KB937444, Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 & Windows Installer 4.5

    The upgrade of SQL 2005 cluster fails with error below;

    On "Setup Support Rules" error appear as "Not clustered or cluster service is up and online"

  • Do you have any services besides the database engine installed on this cluster such as SSIS or SSRS?

  • No, only the SQL Server 2005 Database Engine used on this single node cluster.

    what is the exact error you are getting. can you post an extract from the log?
