Hi all, i've a customer that has a MSDE installed and he was reporting me that all queries ran slowly.
I've been doing all that i know (reindex, update stats, free preoccache, make trace,...) but at the final i've decided to shutdown sql server. Well, when it restarts all ran faster.
The question is: what does SQL when it shutdown ?
Thanks

It sends an email to Bill Gates, and waits for his permission to run faster!
Just kidding. But it's amazing that an OS and a DBMS that together comprise a universe of hidden gotchas have essentially three basic solutions: re-start the app, re-install the app, shutdown/restart the server.
Maybe, just a guess, the app isn't good at shutting down SQL Server processes that it starts, and so they pile up like cat poop in the home of one of those little old ladies who keep hundreds of cats.

Ok, very illustrative but few efficient.

Prior to shoveling the poop up and throwing it away...
I would have your customer look at task manager and see if anything has run away and/or there are a lot of the same thing as well. It could be completely unrelated to SQL....
Good Hunting!
