Severity 20 Error - Connection Pooling

  • I'm currently doing more research, but I received 4 severity 20 errors within seconds of each other yesterday on our report server. I can't seem to find anything on Google that has a consistent answer with the given error (too many different answers to make sense of). All 4 errors read like this (for 4 different SPIDs):

    Error Text in Email Notification

    DATE/TIME:2/5/2011 12:21:43 AM

DESCRIPTION:The client was unable to reuse a session with SPID 111, which had been reset for connection pooling. This error may have been caused by an earlier operation failing. Check the error logs for failed operations immediately before this error message.

    COMMENT:(None)

    JOB RUN:(None)

I know for a fact that one query was running in SSMS against this server (I was running it). I don't know how many reports were running against the server at the time (I didn't think to check until it was too late to get an accurate read).

I'm not sure how to interpret this one. Other than "the SPIDs are dead, deal with it." Can someone give me some insight?

  • Nothing in the logs happened right before these errors, except a few security audit failures in the Event Log. I've checked the SQL Server Log, SQL Agent Log, Application, Security and System logs. Everything I've found on Google seems related to something else, so I'm at a complete loss.

If anyone has ideas of other things I can check, I'd appreciate the input.

  • Nope. I can't even find these errors in the logs. It's like they happened, but didn't happen (according to the server logs). That's what's driving me nuts.

The earliest entry before my P.I.T. is 3 hours before, and it was informational only. Nothing after either.
