My company is currently using remote desktop to log into a file server and open an access database...With it's growing size the connection is just too slow...
I'm looking for a basic breakdown of the steps involved in installing SQL Server onto the existing file server and being able to create ODBC connections on remote workstations through IP addresses (NOT through a LAN)...
I've have experience with SQL Server 2000 software (enterprise manager, query....etc) but have never set up an SQL server.
Any help, hints or pointing in the right direction would be appreciated

In this case I would really advise to take a FREE class on Microsoft Learning website. This is a 6 hours online self-paced class, free untill November 2006

SQL Server has many editions and many installation options and after completeing this class you will be able to select the appropriate edition and install the appropriate options.
