I cloned a production SQL2K sp3 server for development. Both servers now have the production name. I searched here and found sp_dropserver and sp_addserver as the way to change the name on my dev server but the thread had only one response. I guess I'm looking for confirmation that this is truly the way to proceed as I really don't want to re-clone if it isn't. Thanks for any responses!

That's the way... and then restart the server to get the new name in action.

just to add to Remy:
When Drop server make sure if the Mail Profile has been dropped at SQL Server Agent
and check if this server has been dropped from Linked Server`s List ( if have any)
