Hi everyone,
Will 2K SQL Server support having the data and log files on
a remote SAN device, with the corresponding instance on a
server box? Thanks to everyone for being there to help.

How do you define the remote SAN? If SAN storage is remote, the answer is YES. We use it.

Thanks for responding. Its a remote stack of drives managed by a 3rd party utility. It's on the same fiber backbone as the SQL server
box.

I think the confusion is that SAN's (by your definition) are always remote. Your wording threw me a little bit as well: I was curious if you were getting at something else.
But the thing to remember is that to the OS - it doesn't really know the difference between the SAN volumes and its locally-attached volumes. The LUN's are mapped and look like they're local drives. In that sense they're "not remote". If you were to somehow MAP to remote drives (as network drives, etc...) then SQL Server would have a very different behavior than it would with "standard" SAN LUN's mapped to a specific server.
