Retain Audit log for 1 year

  • Does anyone have an idea on how to guarantee that I can keep the rotating SQL Server Logs for 1 year? I know that I can change the number of logs that are rotated to 99, but that does not seem like what my boss is looking for.

    Thanks

  • You could just copy the log files to another location and delete them as they age past one year. I haven't done it, but I'll bet there's a way to automate it.

In my shop, we have scheduled tape backups of the directories on the database server and the log folder is included, so the log files are saved on tape for a year.

  • That was my first idea. Then I was thinking that the Windows Event logs can be changed to save for 1 year if you make the maximum log size large enough.

    Thanks for the assistance.
