Restoring Databases after system rebuild?

  • I have a pc with Windows 2000 server as well as SQL server 2000, my databases are also on the system drive (bad pratice, I'm sure!). I need to rebuild the hard drive due to hard drive failures. How would I first backup the databases including all stored procedures, logins etc? then after a new hard drive is fitted and a new build put on restore all the databases back?

  • Simply issue a backup of the database(s) to a different disk on the server (or totally to another server). Once the new disk is in, simply restore the database(s). Or you can DTS them out and then back in once you're up and running.
