I have a big backup file which contains multiple backup version. And I got the following instructions to restore one of backup. When the restore completes, it said "Successfully loaded backup history".
However, I did not see any data/procedures loaded. I suspect the step 10 is wrong. Can anybody tell me how to restore a specific backup in a multiple backup file?
1) Right click on the database you with to restore
2) Select All Tasks -> Restore Database from the menu
3) Select the Restore "From Device" radio button
4) Click the "Select Devices" button"
5) Click the "Add" button, locate the backup file and click OK
6) Click the Options tab
7) Select "Force restore over existing database"
8) Verify the filenames and paths to the database and log. Change if
necessary
9) Click the General tab
10) Click the Read Backup Set and add to Backup History
11) Click the "View Contents" button.
12) Select the date you wish to restore. Unselect the other dates and click
OK.
13) Click OK to start the backup.

Yes step 10 will not trigger a restore. You have to have "Restore Backup Set" as you set option with the restore type then click ok. Whne you do the other it is just adding the backup history to the msdb media table.
