Reporting/HA design advice- FCI with AG

  • Looking for advice on design for Reporting solution.
What we currently have- WSFC1 with 2 nodes (Act/Act) and 2 FCIs (sqlserver 2016 Ent Ed).
For DBs from 1 instance Business came with request to createseparate Reporting instance (real time copy of OLTP) and DataWarehouse one (ETLfrom Reporting DBs)- again- with HA. Therefore our plan is:
    - to create 2-nd WSFC2 (2 nodes, Act/Act with 2FCIs) and
    - to tie these 2 WSFC via AG- Primary Replica on OLTP instance andSecondary (Read only)- on Reporting instance. Hence Replicas will be ondifferent WSFC Distributed AG should be created.
    Questions:
    1) Is is doable? Any caveats in that design? 2)Other suggestions for design?

    Thanks

Are the cluster nodes running Windows 2016 or a lower version?

    2012

you're rather limited there to be honest.
If you can upgrade the nodes to Windows 2016 you'll have better options with the WSFC
