Reporting Services Question

  • Someone recently told me that from SQL Server 2017 you are only allowed to install one instance of SQL Server reporting services on an individual server.

I am no reporting services expert but I believed in the Reporting config manager you were able to select different instances you wished to connect to on a single server that we're on a specific box but this is apparently not the case any more can you confirm?

  • Thanks for posting your issue and hopefully someone will answer soon.

This is an automated bump to increase visibility of your question.

  • Yes that's correct, since the installer for RS was split from the main installer you can only perform 1 instance of SSRS per server.

If you try and re-run the installer again you get the option to upgrade, repair or uninstall.

Makes sense in a way as you should only be installing one component on a server, appreciate that can complicate licensing for some organisations, but from a performance perspective, they should all be separated so each can have its own set of dedicated resources.
