Report Manager wont launch

Yup,another one from us.
Any ideas what else we need to do to get the Report Manager to launch? We followed the basic installation, sticking with all the defaults.
We can browse to the reportserver directory and access reports from there, and gain access to them direct from the URL, but when we try and access http://server/reports the browser eventually comes back with a generic application error - judging by the time it's taking, we believe this to be nothing more than a time out.
We have tried on 2 servers now and get the same each time.
Any suggestions?

ARGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!
You are NOT going to believe this, but as a last straw we uninstalled the SQL Reporting Services for a fifth time and reinstalled it. Same prompts, same options, same selections.
What on earth happened I have no idea, but the reports manager is now running and the reports are deploying and rendering like the proverbial brown stuff sliding off a digging implement!
I just hope we don't have this rigmarole when we go live - but I have to confess, it leaves it's rival standing!
