Hello, i just installed sql reportserver on my win-xp with sp3.
Also i have visual studio 2008 installed.
When i go to the url: http://localhost:8080/reports and i type in my user name and password (i have sa-rights on the computer) i get the folowing error:
Error message 401.3: You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials you supplied (access denied due to Access Control Lists). Ask the Web server's administrator to give you access to 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS10.MSSQLSERVER\Reporting Services\ReportManager\home.aspx'
I have correctly configured report server configuration manager with windows authentication for my user-name.
This is my log-file:

Sa rights is not relevant to SSRS you need to go into configuration manager and make sure SSRS is running under Local System account. Then you can configure SSRS, you should also know SSRS uses the file system so the url have changed. Check below for the new url definition in SSRS.

Thnx for youre reply,
I wen't to configuration manager and made sure SSRS is running under Local System account.
I had to enter a password for an encryption file and saved the file on my computer.
The url is defined by the default installation of sql reporting server!!
I also defined the authentication type in the rsreportserver.config file:
I get error 'Acces denied' http 401.3 error.
In computer-managment i added asp.net to the report-server.
I don't know what else to do!
Please help me what more can i do!
Thnx!

My mistake I think SSRS 2008 actually does not require high account and I think I have found an existing thread with your problem. So check below for your problem and how to fix it.

Again many thnx for youre reply.
I allready noticed that thread earlier.
But i don't understand why it doesn't work normally. I installed Report Services under default conditions (native install).
In the rsconfig file i added the folowing lines:
AuthenticationTypes
RSWindowsNegotiate /
RSWindowsKerberos /
RSWindowsNTLM /
/AuthenticationTypes
It all doesn't help.

You have to tell me why you need those types of authentication in an XP box because all are not needed if you just want to write code.
Kind regards,
Gift Peddie

I am back per the link below those authentications use AD XP is a desktop OS so you need to change please read the two links at the end of the page Windows authentication and Basic authentication because Microsoft says SSRS is not using IIS but it is using web application based authentication. So you could do what I did run IIS I was running IIS with 2005 before 2008 because XP does not have those server features.

Many thnx !!!
It works now with basic authentication.
I don't now why it doesn't work with windows authentication.
Maybe it has something to do with windows xp? I don't now.
Now gonna look how to secure things.. setting up ssl encrytion i think.
But thnx again...
🙂
