    How can we delete 12 million rows from a table on a production instance that is transactionally replicated to another instance on the system without overwhelm the replication process?

    One option would be to drop the article from the publication, delete the data and then add the article back to the publication.

    Another options is to delete in smaller chunks over period of time.

    Dropping article will invalidate snapshot.
