Replacing Cluster Disks

  • We have a simple 2-node SQL Server 2000 cluster (SP3a)

running on Windows 2000. We are planning to replace

our RAID subsystem with a much bigger and different

    RAID subsysterm (not a SAN).

All of SQL Server devices, backups, logs are on this

subsystem. We will copy off all files on this system,

keep the local system drives (non-raid) and not change

them, then copy back all files on the RAID subsystem. The

logical drives on this subsystem are all shared cluster

    resources.

My question is, if the new raid system is different

and has more disk space and is different H/W, but we

keep the same drive letters, copy back all files OK

and make these drives shared resources, will we

be OK? Nothing else special or tricky to worry about?

Seems that SQL Server, when turned back on, won't know the

difference at all since we aren't changing anything except

    the physical H/W.

Or do I have to reinstall SQL Server for clustering...?

Knowing this will save alot of headache and time during

    the upgrade. Thanks.

  • If you can get Windows to recognize the shared drives as the same drive letter, etc. You should be fine.
