  I have tried everything to remove an instance of sql 2005 from a server, and still when I try to re-install a named instance, I get the painful message.....,

  "An instance with the same name is already installed on this computer. To proceed with SQL Server Setup, provide a unique instance name."

  Does anyone have a really good document on removing sql server 2005 manually?

  Thanks Jeremy. I've already tried this one twice, but it doesn't seem to work. Blows my mind that a uninstall can become this complicated. I'm going to try it again...third time is a charm.
