Remove & Reinstall Business Intelligence Development Studio Server x64

  • I'm getting an error on the Import & Export Settings.

The 'StartPageRefreshDownloadedContent' property appears to contain invalid data.

I need to Remove & Reinstall Business Intelligence Development Studio 2008 R2 from a Server.

Unfortunately I do not have a machine to experiment with.

I was trying to find a good article on this but unfortunately I did not find what I was looking for.

Also I was waiting for someone to insert the media in the Server so that I can upgrade to Enterprise Edition but I don't think that an upgrade will resolve this issue.

Does anyone have anything that might help?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What's the error? I can't see any reason that you would have to uninstall and reinstall the program to fix something like this...

  • Jared,

You are right. I should not have to reinsall for something like this.

    This is what is happening:

When I close an SSIS Solution I get the following error:

The Automatic saved settings file " is not availible for write.

You can change the file 'Import and Export Settings' Tools Options page.

Your settings were reset, but there were some errors.

I attempt to reset the settings and I get the following error:

Error 1: Startup: Unable to import property 'StartPageRefreshDownloadedContent' because it contains invalid data 'true'.

  • In addition to the problem that I stated I frequently I'm getting package that become corrupt.

I would like to start clean with a remove and install.

I could do it from my home PC without any suggestions or advice.

    Thanks for the input.

  • I have done it once before without any issues. Because SQL server does not require it, it shouldn't be an issue. However, in your case I would be worried about that server because if something is corrupt, it may not uninstall or reinstall correctly. Let me know how it goes.

  • So when I uninstall do I select SQL Server 2008 R2 64 bit and do I get the option of which component to uninstall or does it remove every component?

  • Ok, running through the installation disk on my PC, I thought it may be best for you to go to the MAintenance section of the setup, and then select the REPAIR option. It will ask you to select an instance, but also has the choice in that list for "shared components only." I would do that and issue a repair. See if that helps the issue.

    Jared,

Well, I relized that the uninstall that I mentioned that I did was actually Visual Studio, not BIDS. I would "think" that a repair does the same thing as an uninstall/reinstall, though. I'm out of ideas except a call to MS. Sorry!

  • Thanks.

My question is how do you perform an uninstall to just remove BIDS?

    What are the steps?
