  • When I was working as a minframe application designer and developer, I was one of those 10x engineers.

    I never thought the others in the team did not earn their salaries, we all worked about the best we could do. However, my pay was seldom as much as 10% higher than my colleagues, about the only perk I had was continuous employment in economic downturns.

    Eventually I moved into database management, eventually becoming a database architect - the most enjoyable job I ever had.

  • I always thought the Mythical Man Month a great book ever since reading in 1991.  Have reread it again a few times over the years and have handed out m copy to others many times.  It is a fairly quick read.  Anyone with any connection to software development should read it - for a large part it still applies today.
