Reference books for SQL DBA

  • Hi everyone. I am a SQL 2000 Server DBA. Can anyone please suggest which would be the good book for me. I have completed the MCDBA certification. I want to enhance my skills as DBA. Please suggest a good book. Thanks in advance.

  • A very short list:

Inside SQL Server 2000 by Kalen Delaney

SQL Server 2000 for Experienced DBAs by Brian Knight

The 3 Guru's Guide books by Ken Henderson

There are tons more, which I'm sure others will suggest shortly.

  • Indeed Brian, these are all great books.

But I also certainly want to mention the new books of Itzik Ben-Gan that are very good to get a deeper insight in the query optimizer and tuning efforts:

Inside Microsoft SQL Server 2005: T-SQL Querying

Inside Microsoft SQL Server 2005: T-SQL Programming

Can't wait for the 2 new books Kalen Delaney is writing!

A very good read (and free!)
