What is the recommended maximum database size in SQL 2000. In the upgrade document for MOSS 2007 it says that the best practices for SQL Server is a DB size of 30GB but the sharepoint maximum is 50GB. I have searched high and low for this best practices document without any luck. What I want to know is, is this sizing realistic? Is SQL Server 2005 any better? Will more data files help with this?
thanks in advance

I don't understand the question - different apps may well recommend a "size" for the database they use, however there cannot be a recommended size, it's all a matter of scale. The size of a database is dependent upon the size of the data to be stored, offset against rooom for reasonable growth to avoid fragmentation etc. etc. I've used databases between 750Gb and 2Mb, there's also the terabyte databases

This is quite a contrary queston..The max size of the database is a capacity planning chapter. If your Physical server can support, you can have a DB size in TB's. I have worked on them...Read the guidelines for capacity planning..U need to know how much data, no of users accesing and the limit to the physical RAM/Processor etc..for optimun usage..
