Reading backup package data

  • Given that maintenance plans in SQL Server 2005 are now stored as SSIS packages, is it possible to 'read' the SSIS package data to identify 'Back Up Database Task's, and work out what backup options are in place?  Thanks.

SQL BAK Explorer - read SQL Server backup file details without SQL Server.
Supports backup files created with SQL Server 2005 up to SQL Server 2017.

  • There's nothing that I know of that documents a SSIS package. I know there were rumours of MS giving us something like that.

You could write an app to read the package, it's only XML, and try and do it that way round. Would not be to much work.

Cheers,CrispinI can't die, there are too many people who still have to meet me!It's not a bug, SQL just misunderstood me!
