Read sqlservercentral article offline?

  • I recently installed the Firefox add-on Read-It-Later, hoping that I could read on the subway or plane articles that I just didn't have time to read when I had some kind of internet connection. Much of the reading I hoped to be able to do offline were sqlservercentral articles. However it turns out that even if I am logged in when I bookmark the article and prepare it for offline viewing in Read-It-Later, a new login is required when I try to access it offline.

Is there some way to read the articles offline - such as when traveling, or otherwise away from an internet connection? I can't believe that I am the only one who has wanted to do something like this, but I haven't found any information on it searching the site. Am I missing something?

  • I use Microsoft's Internet Explorer - save the article / forum page in mht format to my thumbnail and when I have the time to read use IE to open the saved copy and read without a need to login. Works for me. Can you save in mht format using your browser?

If everything seems to be going well, you have obviously overlooked something.

  • That's interesting. I'd think that there would be no problem reading it offline. Maybe some JS we have. I'll give it a try and save some files.

  • Duh! I can't imagine why it did not occur to me to just save the page! Maybe I wanted the cool gadget thing. There are several save-as options in Firefox, though saving them individually like that doesn't give me a nice reading list with topic summaries, that can be checked off as you go through them.

    Thanks!
