Re: Ticket- MSSql server is in other than Active state

  • This might be a silly question.  Anyway, here you go.I have a ticket which says "MSSql server is in other than Active state"I checked config mgmr and all services running fine.  So, I am not sure what exactly it means.

  • sounds like an end user comment...it's not an actual error message.

    I would guess that someone could not connect or was blocked, and stated that the server must be down, which i show i read your ticket complaint.

    The services themselves might be up and running, connectivity might be fine, but someone maybe blocked due to an open transaction or something.

    i would check the basics first, and then kick the ticket back for more information so you can actually reproduce the exact steps that caused the issue to be reported...database, user, etc.

    Did you try to connect to the server via SSMS? did you run sp_who2 or sp_lock to check for blocking?

    did a specific database get removed or otherwise taken offline?

  • This ticket was system generated. I also checked if it's clustered or not and it is not.

    Someone from app team called one of the dba and it was found that the ticket was created due to blocking.

    There is a job in that server and I think this job supposed to send emails once blocking occurs. I was told this ticket was related to this job but we would not be able to find this just from the ticket.

    It's a custom error and a custom ticketing system. There's not really a lot anyone here would be able to tell you about it. I would recommend you talk with your internal resources about these items so you'll know what to expect from it in the future.
