Re-registering

    I need to creat a publish server and in order to do this the server can not be registered with the name  (local), so I need to re-register it but the server is running a critical database and I dont want to lose any data or settings. So my question was will anything be affected if I re-register the server with a unique name?

    You should be able to register with the netbios name of the server. This will not affect anything!
