I have a basic question about the quorum drive in 2008 R2 clustering. This is the 1st time I've setup a cluster from scratch. 😀 I used the "Pro SQL Server 2008 Failover Clustering" book as a guide; EXCELLENT book! I currently have setup the following:
2-node cluster.
Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise OS.
SQL 2008 R2 Standard.
Everything is working beautifully so far (no errors).
The Quorum isn't in a group like a 2003 cluster is though. It shows in the Storage section of the Failover Cluster Manager only. Is this normal? Or did I forget a step to add it to a group like the MSDTC & SQL portion is? If this is normal, how do I fail the Quorum drive over to the other node without restarting the entire server? If this is not normal, any ideas how to get it in a group after initial setup?
Thank you for any advice or suggestions.

yes this is normal, you need not worry about it

Thanks! How do I fail the Quorum drive over to the other node without restarting the entire server? Or is the only time the Quorum drive on the secondary node is when the primary node is completely down?

why do you want to go failing the quorum drive around?
If you reboot the node its active on it'll move to another node.

OK, thanks! I'm used to 2003 having the Quorum group there to move/fail to the other node. I won't worry about this since it works great upon restart. Have a great day! 🙂
