I am attempting to move an application db from 2000 to 2005. The custom provider for this app will not allow the login to belong to any server roles or it gives an error. I have several installs of sql 2005 on 2003 servers. All of them show this public server role except one. This one shows the public server role when I connect from my local management studio but not from the management studio on the local server both of which are connected using sa. Can any one shed some light on this or tell me how can I get the login for this one app not to belong to the server role public?

All the ones showing the public server role are at 9.00.3042.00. The one that does not show the public server role is at 9.00.1399.00. So what now. How can I get this apps sql login not to belong to any server roles?
Thanks

The ones that are not seeing the Server role are pre-SP2. In SP2 SMO was upgraded to be able to see the Server Roles.
