I'm trying to install SQL Server 2005 on my Laptop, it's OS is Win XP Pro and I installed Visual Studio.net 2005 beforehand.
The installation process goes well up to the point where it's trying to install components, books online ... Then it produces an error message saying that "One of the components mentioned in ADD_LOCAL is already installed, change the UPGRADE property of the mentioned component" or something like that, I try everything I can but with no results, can someone help me please ? thanks.

What version are you trying to install?
VS usuall installs express by default when its being installed?
As it sounds like its trying to upgrade a version you alreday hav einstalled

I'm installing Standard Edition, and VS already installed express, so yes it's going to upgrade something

If you installed the express version of management studio you must uninstall it first if you wish to install the full version. So I am guessing this could be an issue for you.

Hi,
normaly you can install the SQL-Server 2005 on the SQL-Server Express instance, but you have to mark the Checkbox to Workstation Components, Books Online and Developement Tools. It is recommand to give an explicit acceptance for the Upgrade.
Also you can read the Errorlogs in C:\Programs\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup\Bootstrap\LOG\Files for each Component in a separate file. Errors are each identified by "Return Value 3". Or you can analyze it by using the Microsoft-Tool wilogutl.exe.
