Practical IOT

  • Yes, IoT monitoring is a good application for industrial, healthcare, and the environment. I have a Ring security system and love it. I guess drones fall under the category of IoT devices, and there will a lot of useful applications for that in the near future.

However, I still think that IoT home appliances are for the most part expensive fluff. I wouldn't pay > $3,000 for a "smart" refrigerator. Even a regular $1,000 refrigerator can be outfitted with a $50 temperature sensor, and a $200 tablet can be mounted on the door, so you can watch the news while slicing vegetables for dinner. That's a smart fridge.
