Please help. I have Vista,Visual Studio 2008, SQL Server 2005. And various SPs. Installation screwed up.
In Visual Studio 2008, if I go to:
data -> add new data source -> database -> new connection
I can't see the Microsoft SQL Server CE option?
Do you have the compact database option from the SS 2005 tools?
thanks for the early response. I have "Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Mobile Edition" and "Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5"under start -> All programs
Is that what you meant?
No, from within SQL Server Management Studio, when you try to connect so you see "SQL Server compact Edition?"
yes, I can
What do you see from View|Database Explorer|Right click Data Connections|Add Connection
Microsoft Access Database File
Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5
Microsoft SQL Server Database File
What about you?
I don't see those options under view, in SQL Server Management Studio?
Sorry, I switched apps on you.. Aren't you psychic? That was in VS 2008 that I was talking..
It's ok. I did also look in Visual Studio 2008, but, there is no
Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5 ???
I need to re-install something. I've been re-installing everything related, but, nothing yet?
I have a thought.. Go to the SQL Server Compact Downloads page:
And download the version and all the tools there. Install them directly.
That is about all I got..
when i try and install, Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5 for Windows Mobile ( SSCEDeviceRuntime-ENU.msi ), i get the message , "a later version of microsoft sql server compact for devices is already installed".
How about the SP1?
tried every SP1, there is
1) Visual Studio 2008 SP1 - already installed , re-installed on top
2) Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5 Service Pack 1 and Synchronization Services for ADO.NET version 1.0 Service Pack 1 for Windows Desktop
already installed - repaired on top
3) Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5 Service Pack 1 for Windows Mobile
4) Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5 Service Pack 1 Server Tools
re-installed / repaired
I'm sorry, I think you have done everything I would have done.. There is nothing else that would be obvious..
ok, one more thing, looking at wikipedia, it says "sql server 2005 is not compatible with SQL Server CE 3.5"??? Is that true?
Question 2, are compatiblitlity issues only related between sql server 2005 and SQL Server CE 3.5, or are there also compatibility issues with Visual Studio 20008?
