Permissions Error on Compact merge replication

  • Hi All.

I am having a serious issue that I cannot seem to find my way out of. I have set up a merge replication between a MSSQL 2005 database Distributor/Publisher and a few MSSQL Compact SDF files.

The MSSQL 2005 Set up as follows:

2005 Standard database, IIS 6.0 with SSL Cert installed, SQL Compact Server tools installed. On this box I have created a distributor and a publisher using Windows Authentication and SQL Authentication on the database. I have created a snapshot share with the relevent permissions on both the Virtual Share and the Snapshot share. The system was working fine then suddely stopped workin with the following error

The merge process could not initialize the subscription. Nothing has changed on the server.

Please any assistance would be great. The subscriptions are from a remote location.

I would love to ride on Scott McKechnie's question related coat tails!

In my case I have a test server in which everything works and has been working for several months. Now that server is slated for other purposes. I have moved the database in question to another test server, made all of the changes to get things up and running but get the following message:

Replication-Replication Merge Subsystem: agent WWW-XXX-YYY-ZZZ-13 failed. The merge process could not initialize the subscription. Ensure that the subscription registration exists at the publisher, and reregister the subscription if necessary.
