Performance Issue With SQL Cluster virtual IP

  • We are having a performance issue with two applications that hit a SQL 2005 Cluster. These are two applications hitting 2 seperate clusters but the characteristics of the problem are the same. In both cases, it appears that connecting to the SQL Virtual Server is substantially slower than connecting directly to the active node.

In one case, we used the application servers host file to point the Virtual Server Name to the Active Node. In the other case, we change the data source to a standalone installation (i.e. non-clustered) of SQL Server. IN both of these cases, performance was significantly better than when the apps were configured to connect to the Virtual Server's Virtual IP.

If anyone has any thoughts please chime in.....this is turning into a MAJOR issue for us.

    Thanks,

  • Sounds like a DNS problem to me. Check which DNS server is configures, which default gateway etc.
