Can I connect perfmon to remote SQL Server ?
If yes, how to connect it ?
Thanks

Yes but you need to use the surface area configuration tool to enable browser service, also change to both local and remote connection and to be safe change to both Windows and SQL Server authentication. Hope this helps.

Surface are configuration is not a problem. The problem is that I don't see something like "Connect to server" anywhere in the Perfmon application. The only counters that it shows is for my local PC which are not what I want to monitor.

I have DBO permissions in our development server and I can connect to Profiler and Perfmon is under tools in Profiler, I must add I have the server registered so it is local to me and I connect to it with SQL Server authentication and Perfmon is running. It is very simple if you get the surface area configuration tool right. Hope this helps.

Yes, you're right Gift, I can connect to Perfmon from within Profiler/Tool menu, but it still shows only MY LOCAL PC counters, despite of the fact that I have 2 remote SQL Servers registered in my SSMS. At lest for one of them the Surface Area config tool is not a problem (however I have not checked another one, but I am not interested in counters on that server anyway).

No there is some confusion here if your surface area configuration is correct you choose the server to connect to at the point of connection because I seldom connect to my local server because the current copy of my development database is in the remote server. I have no reason to check the performance counters of my local server. Management Studio will give you the name of the server you are connected to.

I connected to the server via RDC and in its Service Area Config for SQL Browser: Startup type :Automatice, Service status: Running. I also checked SQL Server Configuration Manager on same server - all 7 services have green arrow and state is "Running".
In my SSMA in Registered Servers window that server IS registered.
Apparently my configurations are missing something else.

I don't know what is RDC but here are the correct steps, in the surface area configuration tool click on surface area configuration services and connection in the database engine window click on service and remote connection enable allow both local and remote and choose both TCP/IP and Named Pipes and everything will be fine. Hope this helps.

RDC is Remote Desktop Connection.
I followed exactly all your steps, I alraedy had all them anabled, but unfortunately my perfmon is still not connecting to the server.

If you connect to the server the Profiler you access belong to that instance which means you are running Perfmon on that server. It is very simple Management Studio tools Profiler tools then Perfmon for the instance you choose from the drop down when you connect. Hope this helps.

If what I tell you did not work maybe you did not install the developer edition or Enterprise edition and you need at least DBO permissions for all databases you want to monitor because I could not look at the properties of the Aspnet database in the remote server because I did not have DBO to that database. So the counters you see maybe for only the database you own per that SQL Server permissions, if you don't have any DBO and above permissions that maybe your problem. I told you that at the beginning of this thread. Hope this helps.
