Package Execution Utility

  • HI (Again),

I have deployed my package using the Deployment Utility manager and when I run the package, I have the Utility window come up. Can someone please explain the Logging option to me. My package fails but with no hint as to why. I am not sure what a "logging provider" is, much less how to update the connection string?

    Thanks! (Again)

How to: Enable Logging in a Package

A log provider specifies the type of log (sql server table, flat file, windows event log, ...) and the connection manager needed to write to that log.

  • Thanks for the explanation, can you elaborate on the connection manager part. Give an example? When I indicate a flat file for the log provider, a list of some of my packages appear in the Configuration String dropdown, but not an option to create a new one.

Do I need to go into the package and setup something?

    Thanks,

I think it is best to set-up logging right away in the packages themselves.
