Our Gang

  • Not all 260,000+ people, but we did get 4 of the SQLServerCentral.com community together for a photo. From left to right, Chris Hedgate from Sweden, me, Alex Ji from Chicago, Andy, Kathi Kellenberger from St Louis, Dale Corey from Merrit Island in FL, and Brian.

I'm not completely sure when this was, probably Tuesday night, but the Summit is a fairly intimate and close conference and I saw just about everyone each day. That's one of the great things about the Summit for DBAs, you see most everyone. TechEd is great, but with over 10,000 people, it is truly hard to find people.

I saw people almost everyday, ducking out Friday to fly back to Virginia where I saw some old friends at my 20 year reunion out of high school. It was well worth the time and expense, and the hassle of trying to start catching up with things Sunday night. I've lost touch with many people, but it was nice to see some and I collected a few email addresses to keep in touch.

One down note, which is why I'm still behind and probably will be for another day. Friday night in between two receptions I got a call from my wife. She broke her ankle when her horse fell on her.

She's ok, though we'll be heading back to the doctor tomorrow for more X-rays and I didn't panic. Dealing with a large animal like that I knew she'd get hurt sooner or later, but it's a choice we've made. More of a hassle at this point than anything, but some of her friends have really stepped up, bringing meals between Friday and now, helping with the kids, feeding horses, etc. Those friends really were amazing this weekend.

And I'm still thrilled with the new ones I made and the old ones I saw at the Summit. The SQL Server DBAs that attend PASS are a great family and if you've never been, you should really work on going next year to Seattle.

  • Thanks for the "gang photo" Steve - it's wonderful to be able to now put faces to names...you say you're not sure when this was taken - my guess is sometime during/after "happy hour" judging by the grins

Sorry about your wife's ankle - guess the good news there is that she has no more bones broken - could've been a whole lot worse!

I'm hoping once you get back to your old routine and finished playing "catch-up" and paid the price of disappearing for PASS & reunion you'll post some more pictures - I know Noel was at PASS & am hoping that his shy & retiring nature didn't keep him from meeting you or getting his picture taken!
