It's an interesting shift from Microsoft. I've also read that tests will be not be retired until they have been available for at least 2 years.

Yes, indeed. I think the realization that many who were MCSEs had not completed recertification (myself included) would not do so by Dec 31 finally caused them to relook at their previous policy. It is good to see that they are listening, at least.

Also, MCSEs retain their cert. There will not be MCSE 4 and MCSE 2000.
In addition there is a new sys admin cert MCSA.
