We're implementing a new SQL system that depends on a series of data loads and jobs running throughout the night.
We don't have 24hr support so if any of these jobs fail then someone needs to be notified at home. The question is what's the best way to go about this.
The easiset way I can see is to use standard sql alerts and emails and send the email to either a pda or pager. The problem with this is it seems quite limited in terms of escalation - alerting someone else if no acknowledgement received etc.
HP Openview I've heard handles these escalation issues and has a smart plug in for SQL, but from what I've seen it's quite high level - disk space, cpu usage etc. Can it actually drill down and query tables to determine if alerts should be fired?
Ideally we would have something like:
1.Job fails
2.Alert sent to support operator
3.No response after 10 minutes resend alert
4.No response after 10 minutes send alert to backup support operator
etc. etc. until acknowledgement recieved.
Or are there any SQL plugins to help with this?
Thanks

I not sure about the reoccurence emails, but you have proc that will pick the errors from the log and send mails on a periodic basis, i mean every 10 mins . As far a openview is concern as u siad it doesn't have the capability to drill down to the error to send alerts. But i know they can work with you to sentup these alerts if you have a fixed error no to look or a described event in place. u need to contact HP support for details.

I think openview might be able to do that on the strength of what I have seen it do.
Manytimes you define your alerts and thresholds for openview to use.We
configured openview for corrective action too (Nice Part). It does not only report an error but it actually runs scripts to correct the error as configured.
There could be a lot more to explore...
May be one of the salesgals could be more specific
