We have a test Win 2k server with Sql 2K Analysis Services installed on it.
1. I plan to upgrade the OS to Win 2K, SP4; then upgrade the Sql component to Sql SP3, and finally upgrade the Analytic part to SQL SPA3. Does this plan make sense to you?
2. I note that someone created a few cubes on the test server. If we dump the SQL databases on the server (using EM jobs) do we still need to Archive the cubes?
TIA,
Bill

Upgrade plan is what we have done before with success (geez I hope I'm not jinxing you now!)
WHen you're talking 'dump' here you're meaning Backup? I would still archive the catalogs (includes the cubes) and then cut this to tape. Backing up the data is great, but if you haven't backed up your catalogs (either by scripting or archive) then on catastrophic failure, you'd have to rebuild the catalogs, dimensions and cubes - not much fun.
